Models-Torches.exe - Torch replacements with FX effects Models-Gore.exe - More realistic blood pools, heads and twitchers on sticks. Models-Barrels.exe - Randomly selected barrel skins Models-Candles.exe - Skullcandles, candle and Candelabra (shiny skin) animated flames. Models-Evileye.exe - Animated Evileye. Models-Pillars.exe - Tech Pillar, Pillars with Heart and Skull. Models-Powerups.exe - Spherical powerups, Health and Armor. The Alternative Models must have their corresponding definition files initialized at startup, the easiest way to implement this is to add the 'abbs-models.ded' to the ded file list when using Kickstart (kicks.exe). IMPORTANT things you should know. -------------------------------- If you are getting unusually slow loading when using models then you are most likely running a Virus Checker in the background, try switching it off. The ded files in the 'jdoom/models/defs' directory on the fourwinds server are only there for backup, all packs will install their respective definition files without the need to download the deds separately. However, when using alternative models make sure you have the current 'abbs-models.ded'. ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/models/alternative/abbs-models.ded This would not normally present a problem but if an earlier pack was to be installed over the top of a more recent pack then the 'include directives' would be over written. WHATS NEW - 26 FEBRUARY 2003 ---------------------------- Model pack version numeration changed (which was called "MPU9" now is known as MP v2.9.0, and so on) 3d fireballs included into MP 2.9, thus updating it from 2.9.1 to 2.9.2. WHATS NEW - 01 DECEMBER 2002 -------------------------- Model Pack is rearranged and skins converted to another formats (Look for more details at http://newdoom.com/hosted/modelyard/). Latest is now MPU9. A lot of obsolete files deleted. WHATS NEW - 22 NOVEMBER 2002 -------------------------- Model Pack is repacked at last and now MPU8 is included into the full model pack. 3 BFG MODs released WHATS NEW - 16 OCTOBER 2002 -------------------------- Model Pack Update (MPU)8 released. WHATS NEW - 28 SEPTEMBER 2002 -------------------------- There was a serious bug in the fireballs pack, with the wrong placement of all fireball models. So, I deleted jdoom_firebals_1.exe and replaced it with jdoom_3dfireballs_1.exe WHATS NEW - 23 SEPTEMBER 2002 -------------------------- KickStart 2 (beta version) released. Should run on any system without crying about missed OCXs and has very handy mechanism for attaching/detaching optional stuff. attention! FILE IS PLACED NOT RIGHT HERE BUT IN THE "support" SUBDIRECTORY! And better is to look for more info at http://newdoom.com/hosted/modelyard/ The updated version of 3d fireballs (beta too) released. They were done by Abbs, but by reason unknown to me he didn't finish his work and abandoned it at 95% completed. I slightly changed them, finished that 5% of work, and now you have them. Using KickStart 2 recomended - added proper KickStartAddon (*.KSA) profiles for easy attaching the effects. WHATS NEW - 26 AUGUST 2002 -------------------------- A patch for squished player bug is released: download and install the jdoom_mpack_patch1_for7.exe WHATS NEW - 06 AUGUST 2002 -------------------------- Ok. Now I, Cheb (cheb@internets.ru), maintaining the model pack, and I fully rearranged the model pack - old piece-by-piece version was deleted, and now model pack grouped to one big archive. Better is to look for details at my site http://newdoom.com/hosted/modelyard/ WHATS NEW - 03 JULY 2002 -------------------------- Cheb is back and he has released new Monster models. Cacodemon, Pain Elemental and Lost Soul. You can get these cool models (Mpu5.exe) from his site. http://chebpage.narod.ru/jdoom/ Theres a new version of Abbspack Alternative Hud Weapons, taking it to version 2.05. ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/abbs/abbspack-v2-readme.txt ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/abbs/abbspack-v2.exe Double Barrel Shotgun's scaling has been reworked so that it now renders correctly in Boomsday. ftp://jfiles:jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/boomsday/boomsday_latest.zip WHATS NEW - 13 JUNE 2002 ------------------------- Apparently, the Bosscube definitions were never included in the 'monsters.ded'. Here is a patch which will fix the problem. ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/models/bosscube-fix.exe WHATS NEW - 12 JUNE 2002 -------------------------- Theres a new version of Abbspack Alternative Hud Weapons, taking it to version 2.04. Double Barrel Shotgun's loading frames have been reworked. ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/abbs/abbspack-v2-readme.txt ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/abbs/abbspack-v2.exe WHATS NEW - 10 JUNE 2002 -------------------------- Two new Alternative Packs are available. Models-Keys.exe and Models-Lamps.exe which naturally replace those models. Also tweaks have been done on the following packs. Models-Torches.exe - reworked the flames of the large torches. Models-Powerup.exe - reworked Spherical powerups and blue bottle, again :/ These files can be found on the fourwinds server in the 'jdoom/models/alternative' directory. The Extra-FX.exe as also been tweaked, but rather than additional effects being added some of the monster death effects have been removed. So if you like the existing effects don't bother with is one. I personally prefer the way I have it now. WHATS NEW - 29 MAY 2002 -------------------------- Two new Alternative Packs are available. Models-Pickups.exe ------------------ - Radiation Suit - Computer Map - Backpack - Light Amplifier Models-Powerups.exe (reworked Spherical Powerups and extra models) ------------------------------------------------------------------- - Spherical Powerups with cool electric effect - Large and Small Medikits - Blue and Green Armor. - Bezerka Pack - Helmet and Bottle These files can be found on the fourwinds server in the 'jdoom/models/alternative' directory. WHATS NEW - 26 MAY 2002 -------------------------- Theres a new version of Abbspack Alternative Hud Weapons, taking it to version 2.03. Fixed a bug I never new existed, apparently skins were not rendered accurately when using some of the mipmapping options (I always ever used Linear). If mipmapping is used then use LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR (l m, l) for more accurate skin rendering or just use Linear if you dislike blurry textures. The shotguns have also had some model tweeks and their skins reworked. A hand has been added to the 357 Magnum model, now looks much better. ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/abbs/abbspack-v2-readme.txt ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/abbs/abbspack-v2.exe If you intend to use this MOD and already have a previous version installed, make sure you run the uninstall-abbspack.bat prior to installing the new version. I had to rework the the 'Models-Powerups.exe' so that the spherical powerups did not look as washed out in certain maps, the fix was to pull the skin inside out on the sphere itself. WHATS NEW - 20 MAY 2002 -------------------------- Alternative Powerups, armor, helmet and bottle are included in the 'Models-Powerups.exe' If you want view all the alternative models just download the 'abbsmdls.wad'. These files can be found on the fourwinds server in the 'jdoom/models/alternative' directory. WHATS NEW - 12 MAY 2002 -------------------------- Fixed a Bug in the 'Models-Shiny.exe', although those who are still running the original will most likely not notice any change. WHATS NEW - 10 MAY 2002 -------------------------- An alternative Pillar with the Heart has been added to the 'Models-Pillars.exe', also a cool new skin for the Skull Pillar. If you want view all the alternative models just download the 'abbsmdls.wad'. These files can be found on the fourwinds server in the 'jdoom/models/alternative' directory. WHATS NEW - 5 MAY 2002 -------------------------- Tweeked the Mancubus effects in the 'Extra-FX.exe', should run alot smoother. WHATS NEW - 1 MAY 2002 -------------------------- Just a couple of small tweeks on the following packs. Models-Shiny.exe Models-Evileye.exe WHATS NEW - 30 April 2002 -------------------------- The 'Models-Barrels.exe' has been added, which includes alternative barrel skins. Any one of three different skins will be randomly selected. The 'Models-Firecans.exe' has also been tweeked for those interested. WHATS NEW - 27 April 2002 -------------------------- The 'Models-Firecans.exe' has been updated, it now features improved skins and FX. Any one of four different skins will be randomly selected ... variety :) Also the FX generators have been reconfigured, so now they will be retriggered after saved games are loaded back. Before installing this Model Pack you can delete the existing 'Firecan' folder as there are redundant skins that are no longer required (found in the 'Md2/Jdoom/Tech' folder). Also, the FX generators have been reconfigured in the 'Models-Torches.exe' to fix the problem with FX effects not being retriggered. Some of the blood pools in the 'Models-Gore.exe' have recieved a few tweeks. These packs can be found on the fourwinds server in the 'jdoom/models/Alternative' directory. WHATS NEW - 25 April 2002 -------------------------- A more interesting Techpillar has been added to the 'Models-Pillars.exe', you will find it in the 'jdoom/models/Alternative' directory on the fourwinds server. WHATS NEW - 24 April 2002 -------------------------- Here is a fix for the mysterious green fog appearing in demos and network games. Download the 'ExtraFX.ded' from the 'JDoom/models/defs' directory. WHATS NEW - 23 April 2002 -------------------------- New Alternative Models for the following :- Models-Gore.exe --------------- - Alive on a Stick - Dead on a Stick - Head on a Stick - Heads on a Stick - Blood pools ( PNG skins with alpha channel ) Models-Candles.exe ------------------ - Skull Candles - Candelabra - Candle Models-Pillars.exe ------------------ - Pillar with Skull If you wish to use these replacements you will find them in the 'jdoom/models/Alternative' directory on the fourwinds server. Read the 'abbs-models.txt' for more information. There is also a upgrade to give several items a 'shiny skin' appearance, I have not gone silly with this feature. Items effected are as follows :- Armour Helmet Bottle (two sub models now make up this model, so as to look best with shiny skin) Keys Floating Skulls The file you require is 'Models-Shiny.exe' which can be found in 'jdoom/models' directory. WHATS NEW - 17 April 2002 -------------------------- I have uploaded 'models-torches.exe' which is an alternative pack for the replacement of all the torches. If you wish to use these models as replacements for the originals make sure you initiate the torches.ded (include ded in the definitions of Kickstart), this also applies to all other 'alternative' models. You can find this file on the fourwinds server under 'jdoom/models/alternative'. WHATS NEW - 14 April 2002 -------------------------- JDoom version 1.13.1 now runs silky smooth using the models :) I have updated the 'Extra-FX.exe' which tones down alot of the FX effects without sacrificing to much eye candy, performance should be less effected. Actually, the explosions are now more in keeping with the original game and fireballs appear more realistic. If you are still getting performance loss due to using the FX effects, then its highly likely your video card has inadequate fillrate. WHATS NEW - 09 April 2002 -------------------------- A bug was introduced into the Missiles.ded by mistake which meant you were unable to see the plasma gun explosions. You can fix this by downloading the 'missiles.ded' from the models/defs directory on the fourwinds server. The error has also been corrected in the 'models-missiles.exe' as well. Skyjake has informed me that there will be a new engine released later on in the week that has addressed the model resource caching problems. Now the model skins will be precached prior to the playing of the level, which should prevent stutters and pauses when entering new sectors. Remember, if you can spare the RAM let JDoom have it by specifying the amount memory it can use, all the model resources get stored in the (zone heap) amount you specify. WHATS NEW - 09 April 2002 -------------------------- There is a new Models-Missiles.exe which now contains the plasma ball and BFG Explosions. There is also a new Extra-FX.exe which has lots of new cool effects, remember you don't have to use the models to use the FX effects. If you intend using models it is advisable to use JDoom version 1.12.3 until Skyjake finds the problem with the slowups in version 1.13.0. WHATS NEW - 08 April 2002 -------------------------- Theres a new version of Abbspack Alternative Hud Weapons, taking it to version 2.02. ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/abbs/abbspack-v2-readme.txt ftp://jfiles@server1.thefourwinds.net/jdoom/abbs/abbspack-v2.exe If you intend to use this MOD and already have version 2.0 installed, make sure you run the uninstall-abbspack.bat prior to installing the new version. WHATS NEW - 07 April 2002 --------------------------- There is a problem with JDoom 1.13.0 using the models. So you will most likely be experiencing stuttering and pausing, Skyjake is currently working on the fix. There is also a problem with coronas clipping on the animated light models. WHATS NEW - 06 April 2002 --------------------------- New 'Models-Player.exe' which now incorporates the exploding player model, the 'Extra-FX.exe' has been updated to reflect this change. BTW - Thanks to all those that are submitting bug reports on the models. WHATS NEW - 05 April 2002 --------------------------- Fixed the Alternative Firecan, there was a missing skin that the previous version of JDoom never complained about and just loaded the first skin in the sub model which just happened to be the correct skin. JDoom 1.13.0 was not so forgiving. WHATS NEW - 03 April 2002 --------------------------- The followig Model Packs have been upgraded, mainly required structure changes. Models-Hudweapons.exe Models-Decor.exe Models-Tech.exe Models-FX.exe Models-Missiles.exe Models-Items.exe Models-Firecan.exe IMPORTANT - Before installing these new packs you must delete their old appearances from the MD2/JDoom Folder. Here are two new FX definitions files contained in 'Extra-FX.exe'. ExtraFX.ded - Now contains all the FX effects for missiles and barrel explosions ...etc. Bloody.ded - Contains FX effects blood splats as well as extra monster death effects. This ded actually removes the blood sprite so monsters bleed their right colors. If you do not wish to use these effects just use [-nofx] in the command line. Evileye.ded - This animates the evil eye, can't be included in the official Model Pack because of modification made to the tics of each state. Find it in the Defs directory (requires initializing). WHATS NEW - 01 April 2002 --------------------------- I have included the latest 'models.ded' file in the defs folder, I should have included this file with the Model Packs, but made the incorrect assumption Doomsday had done so.....dumb. If any one is having problems getting the models to work properly then place this file ( models.ded ) in your Defs/Jdoom folder, future Model Packs will have this file included Make sure you do not have any other Model Packs installed, the latest Doomsday engine requires unique filenames regardless of path otherwise skins can get screwed up real easy. It is not necessary to install Cheb's latest Model Packs as all his cool work is contained in the packs on this server. So older redundant Model Packs will most likely cause problems. There will be a few changes made shortly to the 'model structure' which will require some of the Model Packs to be downloaded again, but more on that later. Also, Abbspack version 2.0 works fine with the current Model Packs. Remember, these packs are not finalized and are still under going changes. WHATS NEW - 31 March 2002 --------------------------- The Hudweapons.ded has been modified to fix interpolation with the shotguns, you can download the new version from the JDoom/models/defs folder. An undefined state in the the 'Monsters.ded' has been fixed. All current definition files can be found in the defs folder, if changes are made that only require a ded modification there won't be any need to download the whole archive. Notification will be given of any changes when they arise, so periodically check this file. WHATS NEW - 30 March 2002 --------------------------- Included SS Dude in 'Models-Monsters3.exe'. Remember, although I have tried to test these models as much as possible there will still be a bit of fixing and tuning required before the Model Pack is finalized. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just contact me if you find any errors in these Packs ( abbs@useoz.com ). Regards Abbs
